In the 1700s, numerous Lodges were founded in the Kingdoms of the Italian Peninsula that linked themselves to English Freemasonry.
- With the arrival of French troops and the founding of Napoleonic Republics and Kingdoms, Freemasonry tied to London ceased to exist, and its cultural influence was also erased.
- In 1860, the Piedmontese government made an agreement with Napoleon III to create a Kingdom by uniting the northern states, centered around a state governed by a relative of Napoleon, while the Bourbons remained in the south.
- Garibaldi, supported by London, conquered the southern kingdom but was stopped by the Piedmontese and French in his attempt to conquer Rome.
FROM THIS SITUATION ARISES THE CURRENT CONFUSION.
